Extension of Deadline for Expression of Interest Forms
Official Statement from the Election Management Committee
In an official statement released by our Chairperson of the Election Management Committee, Ms. Chemutai Harriet, we have confirmed the extension of receiving submissions for expression of interest forms for a period of one month, implying that the new timeline is July 25th, 2025.
Reason for the Extension
The extension follows widespread outcry by our prospective candidates who had missed meeting the initial June 23rd deadline citing delays at the Uganda National Examinations Board, while others were unable to meet the deadline citing other reasons.
Although we had received thousands of applicants for various elective positions, we had to make a difficult decision to extend the deadline in order to give a chance to those who had missed out based on several technicalities.
Submission Statistics and Inclusivity
Our EMC Chairperson, Ms. Chemutai, told media in a Tuesday briefing that we had received over 40,000 applicants who had already picked the expression of interest forms since we opened the exercise on June 1st, 2025. For every position so far covered, we have at least two candidates competing, and so is the case at both Local Council and Member of Parliament level.
“Ours is a people-centered party. We don’t want to lock out those with the passion and capability to serve but who may lack money. Our goal is to grow leadership from the grassroots,” said our Treasurer Mr. Benjamin Katana.
As the NUP, we are an inclusive party that gives chance to every individual and this position has been reiterated by our leadership.
